Opinions on this horse for sale anyone. I like the look of him and know he will need work to bring him on but think he will make a great horse once time is spent on him.

What do you think??

Sorry tried using ref no and doesn't work.
It is the Stunning Welsh Section D second column and at the moment 5th one down.

He looks as if he might be fiddly with his mouth, just the way he is holding/throwing his head in the pics makes me think this.

It is hard to tell but he looks a little cow hocked in the second photo.

He is very long underneath, which can be a sign of weakness through the back and is never a good conformation fault to have in my experience.

Might be the pics but he has quiet a big head for a welshie, so I am not sure he would do particularly well showing.

Also very over priced, £1500 would be more realistic in todays climate. I wouldn't want to pay more than £1000 really as he potentially needs an awful lot of work.

Looks like a nice sort from what you can see. I'd go for a look, but do make enquiries into the just backed bit - he's 6 and looks like he's all ready developed the muscles that are needed for riding to me, not like a horse that's been in the field doing bugger all up until now.

Thanks for your opinion team barney. It must be the pic as I have been out to see him, he isn't cow hocked his conformation is very good and his head is in proportion with the rest of him, he is very striking. He is just starting and obviously very green he looks a bit over bent in the pic but wasn't at all when I saw him being ridden, He has already been shown in hand and came 1st in his first show so have no worries there. Just need others thoughts on him before I jump in.

Pics can be deceiving, if you like him go for it.

Was he gelded late? he looks like he might have been, not that it would cause a problem but they can be less social until they get used to herd politics :)

I'd say he's still got a fair bit of 'furnishing up' to do - the chest and bottom are likely to get bigger particularly with good steady work.

If you like him then ring up to ask about him

FWIW I've got a 7 yo Welshie who's frame looked like that in her 6th year - by the following spring she was a totally different shape - the chest and bottom had caught up with the neck - she went up 2 rug sizes and needed a new saddle. Welshies do seem to do a lot of maturing between 6 and 7.

Yes I've asked that question and also had it confirmed by a friend that he has been doing nothing until started afew weeks ago, he is being professionaly backed, it seems that he has genuinely been going to waste.

Yes catkin this is what I expect, Warmbloods are the same, late to develope. I believe this boy has lost some fat but gained some muscle with being worked, so although I think his weight looks very good in the flesh, I suspect he will put on a bit of weight once the shock of being broken and having to work has worn off.

He looks lovely!
From those pictures you cant make much comment on his conformation - esp if he is cow hocked or not - but as you have been to see him and he has been placed/won then his conf must be good!

Is he just 6? I prefer horses to be bought on at a gentle pace rather than having done shed loads before they are ready and their body to be ready.

I really like the look of him - the fact he is playing with the bit - just shows he is still a baby.

I dont think he is overpriced - I would prob offer £2k gives the room to move up.

He's ok - section Ds are often slightly cow hocked, so that's nothing.... His head is fairly sizeable, but it does seem a bit pricey for a horse that has done so little. Didn't see if he has "done" traffic in the ad - did it say? I reckon about £1500 would be the top price for this horse to be honest. He doesn't have particularly good breeding lines - but that doesn't really matter, unless it's going to influence the price if you're into showing and so on.
