In regards what? The cheeks will help turning, and keep the bit still in the mouth. The Dr B plate acts at an angle on the tongue and when pressure is applied it crushes into it.

It's not really a Dr Bristol though- the plate is rounded like a french link.

Depends on the angle of the plate, shouldn't matter that the edges are rounded really. It might make it a bit softer but still a Dr Bristol and quite different from a french link. As regards the above bit meandmyself might be right, it does look rather like a french link, with the angle of a french link plate. Might just be the wrong piccy..
