Hi, currently compete unaffiliated and recently affiliated to BD in brown GP saddle and brown bridle. Am going to invest in a dressage saddle so black or borwn tack for a fleabitten grey TB? Would have a navy jacket etc if that alters the decision. Thanks

I really like him in brown tack he looks really smart. However, I have seen most people with black tack at dressage and buying a black saddle would be a great excuse to the OH to buy a new bridle :)

Even though I personally prefer brown tack, if buying new I'd go black.
a) great excuse for a new bridle!!
b) black looks good on a grey
c) re-sale will be easier with black if you ever need to, in pure dressage black saddles are more common than brown although neither are incorrect

Recently converted to brown... previously had black as it's more readily available, but found myself with a brown dressage saddle... and now everything is brown :D Also been converted to tweed recently... and non-bling! brass & buckles, not billets, flat bridle not rolled, chain not sparkles...
I am clearly a failure of a dressage diva! :p

I much prefer brown and would buy brown tack if buying new.

Lots of people have black tack for dressage though so it is still correct and is the more popular choice- but I think it looks a bit naff and tacky, personal opinion :)

I would buy brown - my saddler told me once that second hand brown dressage saddles are always in demand because there are so few of them, so i think it would increase rather than decrease the resale value!

I've just bought brown for dr and black for SJ. mainly as I can used the dr for showing too. however I am a traditionalist so prefer brown
only reason I ended up with black jump is that it was £600 cheaper

Brown all the way! I have a brown dressage saddle and sell mainly brown saddles as a fitter. A nice neutral dark brown (not reddish) looks even nicer on a grey than black I think, black is a harsh colour, same as on people!

I go with what suits the horse. My horse is skewbald and we do some showing so his brown tack is great for him. But I personally think black is what suits grey horses and would look very smart for dressage!

this except i dont have the jump saddle . . .yet ;)

i got brown because i prefer it as my horse is bay - she has pretty much no black points because they are all covered with white - the black never tied in with everyting - also compete in tweed so it just looked better i thought - but i do now have to get a new brown bridle . . . because you can never have too many!! :D
