At present my pony is fully clipped,

turned out in the day in a fleece + shires stormbreaker H/W full neck

stabled at night in same fleece + Weatherbeeta 300g combo full neck

She has been in these rugs for approx one month now and has been lovely and toasty but not too hot.

Today the temp as dropped a considerable amount (and its not even night yet eek!) i dont know what to put her in

shall i go for her fleece + duvet + MW no stable rug
im sure she'd be too hot in a HW + duvet.
or shall i just stick with her fleece + HW and put a LW over the top??!?!

im so indecisive today, what to do.....

I know the temperatures have got to drop i think maybe the third option - the thing is you don't want to make her too hot and uncomfortable do you????? tough one lol

Believe it or not, its actually cold enough here for issues with rugs!! I put my boy in fleece with a thick one over the top. But if really getting colder, he has 2 fleeces - if you have them thats great cos they not too heavy.

My big boy also wears stable bandages to keep his little leggies warm - wimp!! What would he do if we were in UK!!

I would tend to keep her as she is- or at least as little as possible... Put it this way if you wear a fleece to the field one day - the next day it might be freezing but the same coat keeps you warm - maybe you just add gloves or a scarf. so maybe if you have a neck cover add that or whatnot - but if you get her too hot and she sweats it'll be just as bad as under-rugging her.

It might be better to swap the fleece for a lightweight turnout under your HW in the field as fleeces can get very wet at the bottom and take ages to dry whereas a lightweight turnout will stay dry on the inside at the bottoms and dry out overnight quicker, plus unless you have 2 fleeces and it got wet, you wouldn't be able to use it that night would you? Our fully clipped pony has a 360g full neck turnout with full neck 200g turnout over the top today cause of the weather and it's always windy up ours which makes it even colder. His rugs are very breathable so he doesn't tend to sweat up in them.

yeah ive got a field fleece and a stable fleece.
i put her in fleece, duvet + MW. she was just right in that and she can have her 300g stable rug on in the day today as she is staying in. thanks 4 all advice and opinions, i hate over rugging but she does seem to feel the cold, altho i think i have a tendency to slighty over rug these days as her hair has stayed very short indeed i havent had to clip for about 2 months now and shes still not got much hair! x
