I have a dilemma.................

I am begin forced to move away from where I keep my horse, split with OH ( left me for a younger, blonder, fitter version who didn't smell of horse!) and he is keeping the house. The house is 2 mins from my current yard.

I am currently living with parents in their guest wing which is just round the corner from old house and about 2 mins from yard where I keep my horse. I have kept my horse there for about the last 5 years, we are both happy there and the assisted livery really suits me. There is no school although the hacking is good and I have lots of friends locally to ride with. There are only 3 liveries there and we all get on well and help each other.

I have had to give my 4x4 back to my ex as it was registered in his name. (how sneeky of him to do that!) I have a trailer that I share with a friend but nothing to pull it with but my Dads Volvo which I can use occasionally if I am desperate.

I compete my horse at riding club activities and where these are held is very close to the house I am buying. There is also a DIY livery yard there, this is much cheaper than my current yard which will be a good 15 min drive from the new house but will be more work for me as it is DIY. This new yard is only about a 2 min drive from the new house.

I will not need to worry about transport as all the events I do are at the potential new yard, so I can sell my half of the trailer back to my friend ( which is what she wants to do)
The facilities are good, all weather school, off road hacking, jumps, cross country course.

I just don't know what to do as I am worried about upsetting my horse and I have heard so many horror stories about yards and I am happy at my current yard but if I stay there I will not be able to compete my horse as much, it will be more expensive and further away..............

Can any one give me some guidance?

Move to new yard! As long as you like the atmosphere there - sounds like a no-brainer to me. Horses settle incredibly quickly and he will be on your new doorstep, the facilities sound ideal and you won't have to worry about transport. Go for it. As for the DIY bit - I would hate anyone else to look after my horses, I think you will find you really enjoy it as well as saving yourself some money. Sounds like a perfect new start.

I think he is now realising the grass isn't greener and recently e-mailed me to aks me if I would like to go to Paris for the weekend...............!

My reply ended in off!!!

The young, fit, blonde dumped him..........

good on you pilib, he doesnt sound much of a good guy taking the house and car. make him sewat and go out and have some non horsey fun and see if you miss him. xx

God, no I don't miss being an unpaid skivvy!

I think he thought I would fall apart but infact it is the other way round!

I did get a settlement, for the house. He did take the car, which I might add was a valentines present last year!!!!!

As long as you like the new yard other clients I say go for it.
Fresh start and all that also will bemuch cheaper if dont have to travel to events especially in current climate.
Just think of all those lie ins before comps!

My chap is kept at a DIY yard but we all help each other out - as I'm first on the yard in the morning I feed them all and turn mine and a friend's out, and then in the evening she bring's mine in for me. DIY can work.

It might also be good to be a little further away from your ex OH!

They say what goes around comes around!
Definitely go for the new yard, I've been D.I.Y. for the last 24 years with my horses and I wouldn't have it any other way (even if I won the Lotto) an you'll find other liveries that can help out if needed.
Good Luck & hope all goes well with the move!
