My pup has just had her second vaccination and my vet has said to wait for 10 days after this before taking her out in public. However I have a couple of friends whose vets said they could go out after 7 days. I don't want to rush things but we are off on holiday this week and would love to take her out for her first walk. If we waited 8-9 days it would at least let us take her out before children are back to school etc.

Do you think the general advice is 7-10 days but my vet is being very careful with what she says? Or should it be the full 10 days? What did everyone else do?

Thanks!

I wouldnt even think of risking it, wait for the amount of days the vet said, after all 3 days is only 3 days, but could be a big diference to your pup if she picks something up.

I generally don't worry too much. I had 2 adult dogs when I last had a pup. The adults had to go for walks and possibly bring germs back. The pup had to come out and about with me to PC rallies and shows during the 8 - 12 week period. I was very careful where I put pup down, not other dogs etc. However we have resident foxes who visit the garden regularly too.

Immunity is quite good after the first jab.

Have to say... all ours went out in the day or two after having their vaccinations and have never had any problems!
Would maybe stay away from very public places.

My vet recommended two weeks. It's not a problem for puppies to go out and about and mix with other vaccinated dogs after their first lot of injections, it's the unknown/unvaccinated dogs that are the problem.

Personally I'd err on the side of caution.
