If I've found the right ad, it's not a back op that she's had but a 'tie back' op, which is to help with breathing and is most often seen in racehorses. If I were you I would leave it alone.
 
Its had a tie back operation.

This is because it has had laryngeal paralysis. A tie back is where a suture is placed to hold the paralysed side of the larynx back to open the airway.
But it does increase the risk of airway disease, and food passing into the oesophagus!
It can cause minimal problems for some horses, and some horses have real problems from it. So thats really your choice!
 
Mine has had a tieback and has no problems at all.

They can regurgitate food up their noses and they are more prone to throat infections. They can cough when they start work, mine doesn't.

If the mare has been reduced in price and you ride her (fast), see her eat and are happy I would buy her. But be aware that you will never be able to insure her against coughs and colds or any breathing problems.
