I want another horse due to having to retire the one I have, so looking but not seriously as currently have very little cash available. What I want is a sensible, kind, well mannered horse that is good to do, good to load and travel, good to hack alone and will take me round small local SJ and XC without killing me! It has to live out, my OH will not allow me to have a cribber (he does not want to be constantly repairing fencing) and I need one that is ready to go as I have limited riding time (no babysitters :() so don't have the time to bring on something really green or sort out issues. Other than that, I'm not really fussy, age, colour, breed, fairly flexable on size, it doesn't have to be pretty, just kind, genuine, sound and healthy.

So, just before the change over, I posted to ask opinions on a horse I had seen advertised (the post has disappeared since). Most folks said it depends on what I want to do with it, hence I have typed all the gumf above. Horse was advertised for £1450 at the time. I phoned up about the horse and the seller did not sound particularly friendly, was very rude about everyone who has tried the horse so far and then more or less called me a liar, so I called it a day at that, not because of the horse, but because of the attitude of the seller. But, being nosey, I have kept an eye on the ad, the price went up to £1750 after my phone call, but has now droped to £1000, so I am now tempted to have a look! Should I, or shouldn't I??

To be honest it depends - sometimes you just get a vibe that you'll get no where or shouldn't trust the owner.

I almost went to view a horse but it was one thing after another i.e. horse throwing shoe etc so didn't bother in the end. Mainly because it would have been a 5 hour round trip and worked out cheaper focusing on horses locally. The attitude of that owner put me off because there was always an excuse - it wasn't just me that must of thought that as the mare was for sale for 3 months afterwards.

Maybe you caught the owner off guard or they haven't come to terms with selling yet? Why not email to arrange a time to call?

It could always work out so it would be worth a view?

Personally though, I'm glad the woman I bought my off was so nice as it made me feel like I could always ask questions - like she'd always be there..if that made sense? Proved a massive comfort whilst he was settling in.

But should you decide to anyway there is one rule and one rule only.
Get it vetted!!!
By a vet not known to the dealer. £1000 seems to be seriously cheap if he is what they say he is on the tin.

5 stage vetting with bloods taken. And try it at least twice in different situations.
Be prepared for being rudely spoken to as well.
