I’m considering installing a wood chip turn out area for those days when the field has turned into a swamp ?
How big do you recommend, possibly for two friendly geldings who get on well ?
I’m presuming I won’t need planning permission for wood chip but would for another surface.

We have three turnout paddocks at the livery yard. Two are sand and one wood chip. The sand ones are fine but the woodchip one quickly gets into is squelchy mess despite being resurfaced last year. I wish there was a pea gravel one.

Don’t do woodchip! It rots after a while and Is really hard work to remove and replace!
mine turned into black deep mulch, it was vile.
I now have a mix of sand as a base and I’m not sure what the topping is, tiny coloured bits, someone suggested old electrical cable ?‍♀️
It was an old arena topping someone locally was selling. It’s absolutely brilliant and the best change we ever made.
