I own a cob who is usually on the large side but have noticed in the last month he is dropping weight since the grass has stopped growing. He is actually looking really good I wish he could look this good in the summer :) He is currently out during the day and in at night to a large haynet with carrots hidden in the net. Is anyone else finding their cobs or similar breeds that are good doer's losing weight for the better?
 
Not yet ! Mine is out 24/7 umclipped and unrugged and not losing any of her porkiness! Our grass has been mad this year though and was still growing as of last week!
 
Humph wish mine would! They get a tiny amount of fastfibre to hide minerals in and have old grass that is brown and dying and are still not losing weight - theyre all unrugged :rolleyes:

I wouldnt dare give my good doers carrots - massive sugar spike not good for their insulin levels.

He only has 2 broken in two hidden in his net and that's not everyday ;)
 
Nope out with a grown in blanket clip and a 180g rug on on 2 slices of hay a day plus what she can find in the field and a good winter weight but I wouldnt want her too good going into summer as she has to be muzzled :o

She will slim down once back in work hopefully :)
 
Mine is dropping off very slightly, like yours out in the day, in at night with haylage. Had to change from soaked hay as my shoulders were giving out! Only has a handful of speedibeet to hide supps etc. Gonna be super careful next spring as he's lost about 50kg now, don't want him going backwards!
 
I thought he was... but having reconsidered the situation this morning I think he is very stubbornly clinging on to every last pound! He is out 24/7 and unless the weather is doing something horrific to make me feel guilty enough to give him some haylage he is munching his way through what is left in the field!
 
not yet, grass was still growing until a week or so ago, I am hoping to get the weight off her over the winter as she came to me fat and i struggled to get her to drop any :o
