My boy's feather is orange when wet. At his last show, the grass was wet and the bottom of his feather was bright orange. I thought it was due to the soil at our yard, but on closer inspection today, he's actually got little orange blobs on the end of his feather!

Randomly, you can't really see it when his feather is dry, but if it's wet, it's really obvious. Now I intially wondered if it was harvest mites, although they can't be biting as he isn't at all itchy on his legs or stamping his feet or scabby at all, and it's only on the couple of inches of hair at the end. OH thinks it's pollen from buttercups/grass.

Either way, has anyone had anything similar? Or any suggestions on how to make it white? I've tried equine blue, whitening shampoo, hibiscrubb, chalk, normal shampoo, but it's hardly made a dent. Would just like a white horse this Saturday instead of the orange and purple one I ended up with at the last show (note to self, make sure the whitening shampoo is washed off completely lol!!)

Thanks peeps :)

pig oil and sulphur - a definite must !! Goes on yellow, but feathers come out bright white the other end ! sm x ps loving horse in your sig !!

Thanks gleek - well I hibiscrubbed them today but no noticable difference, maybe if I do it a few times, might make a difference?

Thanks sm, he's adorable isn't he?? I love your cob too, the photo you posted of him alseep was soooooo sweet! Wish I could get close enough to Harry to get photos like that but he wakes up and gets up before I get a chance hehe! I'm definitely going down the PO&S route this winter, his feather was a nightmare last time
