Hi everyone, I'm thinking of organising a show to raise money for charity, but not sure how to go about it - what sort of insurance is required, and do you need a first aider on site?
Sponsorsors for prizes and rosettes
Advertising and posters
Schedules
Judges and Officials for rings
And lots and lots of willing helpers to help you set up and put away.
Do not underestimate how hard it is and how tiring and stressful it will be.
Good luck

All of the above plus a venue !!
You need to source a good venue (a flat field with good road access is ideal). Then work out a date. Try not to clash with other events as this could affect how many people attend.
Having got a venue & date you can then arrange your insurance, book first aid cover, toilets, & caterers.
Schedule - how many rings, what classes? Go to some other local shows. See which classes are well supported, & check out the size of the rings - make sure you have enough room at yur venue to fit in all the rings you plan on having. Don't scrimp on ring size what ever you do.
Site plan.......you'll need horse walks / horse free zones. These will need to be detailed on your risk assessment.
Judges. Ask other show secretaries to recommend good judges / course builders to you.
Alternatively you could run something at a equestrian centre. Unaffiliated dressge is popular & is easy to set up in an indoor or outdoor school. Try & find listed judges, or use locally respected unlisted ones. All you wil need then is a steward, a writer & a two scorers. You will still need insurance & first aid, but if you're running at an equestrian centre you may find toilets & catering are in situ & are part of the hire charge.
Good luck........it probably sounds a bit daunting to take on on your own, so why not try a local riding club? Either see if they'd be interested in supporting your charity, or maybe just volunteer to help with some shows & get some hands on experience first.
