organising transport long distance for horses

Call about (Gillies is quite good, and the lorries are lovely). Generally if you are willing to be part of a shared load then you can drastically reduce costs.

Am thinking about buying a horse which is quite a distance from home and was wondering if anyone had any experience of using transporters. a friend said she used to share transport when transporting her horse to uni.

Have also used Gillies, they have taken my mare/foal in past from Midlands to Aberdeenshire and use their base in the Borders to break the journey. Both arrived in super condition.

I've used GG Equine Services - Georgie is simply great, she has horses, knows horses and her lorry is really well set up, she travels all over and is reasonably prices, I've used her for a first time stallion traveller and mare and foal.

My friends have used Parkers for international travel and shared loads are quite common, although it depends when and where. The things you have to look for are that they are qualified and fully insured, plus know what they are talking about!!

Good luck in getting your new horse!

Another recommendation for Parkers, they recently transported a friend's mare from Finland to the UK, she arrived looking as if she had travelled 30 miles, not 3000! Also recommend Gordon Hamilton, who regularly does north-south trips, he is lovely, took really excellent care of a mare and foal for me a few years ago.

a neighbour took her 8 horses 2 by 2 down from scotland and we are on the border of wales!! imagine all that driving and the poor must have taken ages :( if i was her i would have got a company to do it or hirsed an 8 horse lorry
