I can't believe it's 8 days! That's what getting up every 2 hours for a week does to you, rolls everything into one! I'm very happy to report that I'm (as of yesterday afternoon) totally redundant in every aspect aside from caring for foster mum!
TP (Tiny Puppy) is now 5.5oz! Gaining weight daily and muscling in there to suckle. The sheer determination of this puppy and his will to live has totally overwhelmed me. Tbh none of us thought he would make it, he was less than 3oz, and so tiny, so when he was still alive 48 hours later it was more of a shock. When mum died and we couldn't get him to feed from the foster mum, and she put him out of the bed I was actually on the phone to the vet contemplating euthanasia when the cat 'adopted' him.
The vet agreed that he deserved a chance, so between us (me and the cat) we fed, washed and him warm. He grew stronger and after 5 days, aged 1 week, he went back to the canine foster mum, whom he could manage to suckle if latched on. He's now 10 days old, less than half the size of his brothers and sister and will elbow his way through to the best seats in the house!
The other puppies are great too, the second smallest, another boy, is currently just under 11oz. He was the one that I could feed from foster mum from the beginning but had to latch on. Both the larger boy and the larger girl are at 14 and 15oz, and they seem enormous!
Incidently, it's tiny TP's eyes who're opening first, They've been opening for about 3 days now, since he was about a week old, I was wondering if this was a sign of an underlying problem, but am at the vets in the morning for foster mum and babies to have a checkup, so I'll ask then. I think the vet was a bit shocked when I said earlier I'd be bringing all 4 in and to be honest so am I
I think should he make it, and it looks more likely daily, little TP shall be staying here with us....
I'm just so grateful to so many people on here who put up with my PMing, my vet who was 'only at the end of the phone 24/7' (and I did take him up on that 3am one morning!) The owners of the foster mum who've loaned me her, and, of course, Mummy Cat, as without her prompt action there would be no TP
And now I'm going to have a large self indulgant glass of wine
