Trying to find beau a new dog bed, preferably an orthopaedic style one.......

However they all seem to extortionate!!!!

I just need one that will give him sufficient comfort and support that when he gets up he is not lame (so enough cushioning that lying on his bad hip doesnt cause lameness when he rises)

At present he has a bagel style bed which he loves but its getting a bit well used and therefore thin.....

anyone got any advice on where i can find the right sort of bed but not be spending £60+ on it! (I saw some for £250...... has anyone spent that much on a dog bed before?!!!)

I'm looking for simmilar, but am keeping my eyes open for a second hand memory foam matress topper. Then I'll cut it and layer it to the size and thickness I want, and make covers out of old duvet covers (I need a new set)
I've seen the matress toppers before second hand, but too far to collect

will the memory foam topper do as good a job as a full memory foam bed? beau is a border colie so not huge, but needs a large size bed normally.....

The memory foam toppers are between 4 and 8 inches thick, depending on type. And either single, double, or king bed size. So are definatly thick and large enough for the job, my 2 are GSD's weighing 50-60kg. There should be enough on one topper, to make 2 beds big enough, for both my two.

ahhhh sorry hadnt realised you meant human bed toppers! I thought u meant dog bed toppers!!!!

not sure how thick a bed i should get him though?!

Cot matresses make good orthopedic dog beds.
The fitted sheets are easily washed too.
Use a vetbed or duvet on top.

Try a wanted ad on freecycle.

Sorry yes human beds

I hadnt thought of cot matresses, but what size would they be? I've obviously not had a child, so have no clue

freecycle.org has local groups. On the site, click on your location, and it'll come up with groups in your region. People offer items they no longer want for free. Hence Free-Cycle, as in reycle

Preloved.co.uk, also has free / cheap, preloved items

Lucy have you considered Tuffies Dog Beds they are supposed to be very very good was going to order one before Xmas but delivery was long over the Hol period so purchased an alternative which will suffice for now. Tuffies have a web site.

i think i looked at the website yesterday, cant remember the pricing though...... hmmm........ will go double check!
Im not big up on dog brands if I am honest so i am pretty useless at knowing which is good or not...

Thank you will double check

I know they are expensive but the back on track dog beds have really helped our lab. They have like a memory foam type inside (about 2" deep) and then they have the back on track fabric round the outside.

The back on track fabric has a ceramic melded into it so that it reflects heat back into the body. this stimulates blood flow and keeps the muscles etc warm and also offers drug free pain relief.

I use the products all the time on the horse and absolutely swear by them. My Mum also has arthritis in her hands and when driving for a long distance she would have to physically release each finger from the steering wheel. with the gloves she has much more movement and less pain and swelling.

PM me if you would like more info.
