Had the vet out to look at his hock which has been swollen for a few days. I managed to convince myself that he will be finished and even started looking up retirement livery on the internet.
So, vet comes and has a poke. Horse is oblivious. Trot him up, he is completely sound (I knew he was as I rode two tests on him on Saturday). Then comes the flexion test. I have to admit my heart started pounding while she was holding his leg up - I thought he would be crippled. But no - totally sound. Flexes it again - totally sound. So unlikely to be bone spavin.
She thinks he tweaked it in the field and wants him on lots of bute and box rest for a week, with cold hosing and wraps. If it is still swollen after that he'll go in for scans as it could be a bone chip in the joint. But it seems to be good news and that it will be fixable.
So we are back on box rest.
He's managed a whole two months in work since his last injury.
Bloody horses.
