I can't ride my horse during the winter in the week so my mum has 3 girls who come and ride him, a day each, just for fun, no payment involved. I can ride now but they still come as it's not really fair to just get them to help out in the horrible months!

Anyway one has been out on him and he's got a big graze on his back leg , nothing serious but it's taken all the hair off and top layer of skin, must be quite sore.

She helped as much as she could and told my dad when she got back, then called my mum to tell her.

The only thing is. Badger has hunted in rough country for 3 seasons, evented and team chased - never having a scratch on him, so I'm just a bit worried about what she's been doing with him to scrape his leg so badly on a hack?

I'm half thinking I want my mum to go out with these girls to keep check - or am I just being paranoid??

Ok thanks Tia.

He's normally one of those chaps that just doesn't, but it can happen to the best of them I guess!

I wouldn't worry about what she has been doing. It is just sods law, a horse can hunt like a demon for years without mishap, and then cripple itself on a gentle hack. Tiz just horses!

Im sure she wont mind if you ask her how he did it.Im surprised she didnt volunteer the info.but she had the right intentions if she asked for help and told your parents.

Would bet anything it's just one of those things and would have happened whoever was on him.
No harm in asking what happened if it puts you're mind to rest though.

Firstly horses injur themselves and its probabley not her fault, if she spoke to your dad and mum then she has been very open about it and won't mind you asking how, just make sure when you do that you don's sound accusing.

Secondly I ride other peoples horses for them all the time and I see no reason why you can't stop them riding him now that you are able to. IMO its your horse. However I don't know their or your situations for me I'm rushing around trying to get them all ridden and one less although its a shame not to ride it anymore can be a bit of a relief. Also it is important that if they are going to just ride him for the winter that it is made clear from the start. If you do that then they know the lie of the land before they start riding him. Sorry thats very jumbled and I might have gone round in circles!!!

Hope his leg is a bit better. Your rider sounds lovely. She stayed to help and rang your mum and dad. It is upsetting when our horses get hurt with someone else but they do things like that. At least she said, helped and phoned. It doesn't sound like a person who would get up to no good. I would ask her nicely how it happened as obviously you want to know, i know i would if it were my horse. She could have left it and denied it happened with her but she didn't. Does sound like one of those things.
