Other stuff rather than rubber matting?

Hi all - happy Friday!

I'm on the look out for some rubber matting, and have been offered by a friend some underlay that was used for astro turf.

I'm not sure whether to try it or not - my thinking is that it will just absorb the wee like a sponge!

She's got some left over which she's using in a field shelter, so is sitting on earth, so urine seeping through wouldn't be a problem for her - but mine will be for a concrete floor stable!

Do you think it's worth a go? They may be waterproof, its hard to tell.

She only wants £35 for enough to fit my 10x14 stable so price isn't really an issue, so I'm tempted to try.

Has anyone else used anything similar? Or have any alternatives to rubber matting...or should I just stop bring tight and buy the real deal?!

Thank you :-)

I've just posted about matting, but I also have been offered this stuff but I haven't gone for it as also really have no idea if it'd work well! Although ours is for a hardcore base so drainage isn't an issue. Will watch this post with interest.

In my big double field shelter on grass but very level I had once side with proper Eva mats and the other very cheap astro turf underlay stuff, both sides stood up to regular use, don't think it would work on concrete base as they are so light and would ruck and move about but on grass/mud they settled in well and worked really well!
Also had it out the front of the shelter and it stood up to 2 tb mares standing on it 24/7 with big round haylage bale! As it was so cheap I did an area about 12ftx30ft which was invaluable when it snowed as could sweep it off really easily!

Thank you both - it's so cheap but think you're right about it rucking up. Didn't think of that. I was more concerned about them acting like a sponge and absorbing all the wee!
Did you find they became soggy at all when used outside of your shelter Maxine?
