umm I'm not sure they would want youpuyying this on an open forum although I do appreciate you did want the best to warn people!

well for those of us who dont know the yard the area would be better as we can inform more people.

Has the BHS been informed as they carry out a strangles watch ever year to monitor the disease.

I know that when my lad was suffering with it we had to inform them.

i think people deserve to know we had a case up here last year and the yard that started the outbreak denied it for ages and kept going to shows. it was my vet that told me cos he was treating them. in the end competition venues had to bar them from going onto the showgrounds

I had someone spreading it round that my horses had strangles and had given it to her horses. Purely because I had removed my horses from a huge grassy field! In the Spring!!! Guess why they were removed. Certainly not strangles. I was so angry! At least 6 people told her my horses did not have strangles but she still continued to tell everyone they did. As said person changes her horses as often as she changes her knickers it is more likely she imported the strangles herself. Especially as she never isolates newbies!

Just wanted to share that as it still annoys me!!!

Unfortunately there is quite a few cases at the moment, we have had two confirmed cases round here plus rumors which I don't really trust. The worst thing about one of the yards was that *i think* the YO denied it at first as not to drive away business but now it is confirmed.
Its best to let people know as its not a nice disease

I have no idea why strangles outbreaks should EVER be hushed up. You owe it to the rest of the horse community to own up and say so. We were given it and to this day I don't know why the original source still claims it wasn't strangles

We had a pony with the classic abscess and one who got a secondary infection and it caused her no end of problems. My vet (called out umpteen times for my lot) never mentioned the S word so I am not entirely happy with them either. Maybe a vet won't pronounce you as 'strangled' without a definite diagnosis and positive proof. Lockdown might be inconvenient, but it would almost stop it in its tracks. I am still seething about it. (Can you tell!)
