I brought my Ottb thoroughbred to a show Saturday. He has been off the track for 8-9 months now and I have only owned him for 6 months. The work I have been doing with him has been flexion and lifting through the back (carrying himself properly) he gets it really well at home throughout the walk and trot, but I have a habit of dropping everything when he softens. This started to make him run with everything I gave him and now I have a galloping horse again! I changed what I have been doing, and started holding outside rein and pushing with my inside leg and he has been doing really well with it by moving into the contact. Our problem at the show was he was really good for rounding at the walk except the trot he was either sucking back or taking off at a gallop, so I'm not sure what to do at the next show. I think I should really lift him and push, without giving to much with my hand, but I worry he will take off. I would love advice or anything from Anybody who has had experiences with Ottbs! Thanks
