Had a bit of an accident yesterday afternoon
Had just jumped on my big chestnut mare to school her, groom had gone off to the feed merchant, OH was on call and was out.
Just walking her before warming her up to do some transitions, im not sure what happened but the next moment she'd stubled and was on her knees i got her up, then she spooked i ended up on the floor with my foot wedged in my "saftey stirrup" off she went with me attached, some how she managed to stand on my left leg. managed to get myself free after she stood still, was thinking that i'd broken my leg as i couldnt move it so pulled myself long on hands and knees to the fillers and plonked myself down there, rang OH in tears. OH came rushing back to find me and horse sat in the middle of the school. Both knew i'd need to go to hospital so OH and I managed to get my brand new cavallo joddies off as i only got them on sunday! Got to hosp its not broken but i've done significant damage to my right hip where i was pulled along, think its possibly a ligament. Although the doc did say if i hadn't been wearing long boots and if i hadn't had my long socks which supported the leg it would have been rather different. so no riding so thats Great Witchingham Pre Novice rulled out

So dissapointed with my self!
Those bent leg irons were what i was using and my foot mas wedged fast into the bent bit!

Mini Eggs if you get this far xx Tizzy

Don't be dissapointed with yourself it was not your fault this happened, you are just being a bit silly. I really do hope that you recover quickly and this doesn't happen again. Pfft safety stirrups aren't exactly safe sometimes as you know

Ouch! I've got this week off work with plans to do loads with my youngster, but got bucked off on Friday and broke a couple of ribs. So my plans are also on hold. It's SO frustrating isn't it? Luckily, I had decided a few weeks ago that I should have some safety stirrups, and chose the "Barnes Buckle" attachments which fit between the leather and iron. After I'd got my breath back on Friday I found my stirrup on the floor beside me as it had broken away in the fall - otherwise I think I'd have been dragged like you. They don't look particularly smart but if they save you being dragged I think they are worth it. I'd hoped to be able to lunge my chap for a few days until I'm feeling more comfortable (nerve has also taken a bashing) but I'm finding
even that very painful. Hope you are soon feeling better. When can I expect the mini eggs!

Oh you poor thing, I hope you repair quickly.

If you ride regularly you will fall off.... some times you bounce & sometimes you don't (and if your unlucky you get caught up).

Are you going to get someone else to compete at Grt Witch' ?, you might enjoy being an "owner". I didn't think i would enjoy it but loved watching someone else compete my mare last year a couple of times when i couldn't, just a thought!

So sorry for you. It's so scary to have these things happen and it's a shame you'll miss Gt Witch.

As for the bent leg "safety stirrups" I've seen and heard of a good few incidents with people getting trapped in them now.

Aw thanks everyone for all my messages.
Horsey is fine, was my main concern tbh, after it happend she came over to me head between her knees was glad she hadn't done too much work as she would have got cold whilst waiting for OH.
OH has offered to compete for me at Great Witch but the horse i was taking doesn't really "click" with OH. Other friend who could take him is going to have a play on him today and see how she feels but shes slightly apprehensive as shes never done pre novice.
I've just ordered another pair of sprenger's and a pair of those buckles.
More cheesed off as i'm on box rest and can't do anything yet i have sooo much to do!
Thanks Again Tizzy xx

Blimey, sounds painful. I am also injured altough only a fractured finger. I think ponies must be feeling spring around the corner! Hope you feel better soon.

Omg sounds painful. I see a good opportunity to sit at home on HHO with OH making you food and bringing you chocolate :P!
Hope you make a speedy recovery! I know when I did my ankle I was fustrated because I had so much to do but I couldn't walk!!

Oh dear you poor thing - I had a nasty accident and got caught up in a back leg and broke my shoulder 6 weeks ago and still too painful to ride... I know how frustrating it is! Hang in there - get your strength up and try to enjoy the enforced time off as it is so so rare that we get any! Hope you are back on soon x
