Well it was bound to happen eventually but I fell off hovis at the weekend!
I took him to a low level jumping competition which due to other events at the place was being held outside. I assumed that meant in a menage but it was actually in a field. The grass was a bit slippery and Hovis wasn't too happy about not having a fence around the jumping area. I should have walked away at this point.
He was being very strong but I thought I'd calmed him down enough in the warm up area so off we went. He took the first two jumps ok but the third jump was on a slope with a really tight turn to jump four. Because of this i wanted to tuck him right up into the corner to be able to make the turn to the next fence, but this meant he had to jump up the slope at an angle. At the last minute he decided jumping down hill was much easier so he went right and i went left over his shoulder!!
I hit the ground right on my left hip then hammered my head into the turf. Ouch. The little git then buggered off!
The first thing huuby said as he ran up was had I broken his fancy GPA hat that I was wearing followed by - "crikey I don't know how you're going to get the grass stains out of those jodphurs"! Love eh?!!
So i am still limping around unable to even lie on my left hip and feeling rather sorry for myself! Oh to be 10 again when you bounce like a rubber ball!

sounds painful, hope it doesn't hurt for to long...glad you didn't break anything.

I can't remember huting myself falling off when I was a kid either but I'm sure it did or did we just bounce....

LOL yep i have had the same happen to me as well!! i sure wish i bounced better now!!! i wrenched my shoulder muscles falling off a few months ago and its still not right :-( hope you feel better soon tho :-)

And that is a long way to fall - I recall Hovis is not the smallest of horses.

I fell off Cairo once only and that was jumping - he put in a huge leap over a small fence in the school and I was asking for it - riding western style in a GP saddle and made him do the fence three times in a role and broke the Clydesdale Rule of One as he had been hacked beforehand. Ended up on his neck - crafty old git then gave a little buck and that was it - splat.

He had done the same thing to a mate 5 mins before - not his fault, just jumped her out the saddle - he has a powerful bum.

He then ran to his Dad, who was about to have a heart attack or pee himself from laughing so much - he was purple.

I never fell off until 27, that was ok - fine by next day. 30s - took 2 days and hot baths and I now find in my 40s - a week, hot baths, painkillers and volterol and try to avoid it at all costs.

Luckily Chancer is only going to end up about 15.1 so not too far to fall.

Hot baths, wine and a body rub from a hopefully more sympathic OH is required for us more mature types
