Just had a letter from nfu saying that Dizz's insurance is going up by fifty percent (yes! 50%).

Ouch.

Ouch ouch ouch.

Ouch.

She's insured for LOU and that's a lot of pennies

Trying to get some clarity on what would and what would not be insured. They say nothing is covered that has been subject of a claim before... I asked for clarification because she went to the AHT with 'hind end lameness' and they couldn't find anything, other than the bony irregularities on the pelvis, which didn't seem to be causing an issue this time.

Ho hum. Off to see what the going rate for one slightly kn*ckered and most decidedly droopy body is on the streets these days.

My head hurts.

Bl00dy horses.

LMAO. Got any extra kids/family members you could sell off.

Or a kidney lol? I suspect all equine insurers are silent members on this Forum so they have heard all about you and your mad neds Mrs M! Start posting stories of how safe your ponios are and how they never, ever hurt themselves or you, and they are in bubble wrap 24/7. Might help!

JS - I currently need my slaves

K - 'tis 'cos I claimed for the Dizzy one - twice in one year

BoF - I think you could well be right. Oops. But compared to some...., yes, okay, see your point lol. Little Lad is now being ridden by an eleven year old boy (on a lead rein, but still!). Daughter still blasts about on him and is determined she's taking him hunting! I shall be watching with my eyes tight shut

. Little Cob has saved us the worry of her being airborne over jumps by the simple expedient of walking through them instead - can't wait to see him do that on the cross-country course!

D - nope. just lying in a quiet corner of my sofa feeling sorry for myself and a letter popped up saying 'Hey! Fifty percent increase!'. Ho hum.

Thats the whole point of insurance though! To claim when you need it. Then they whack the charges up to try and get their money back. Youre better off putting the money in a bank account. insuranc companies want it all their own way!

indeed! tried to argue point, but is the 'underwriters, not us guv.!'. Think the savings account is the way to go, especially with three of the neds.

Will review when can string two thoughts together

I think I might take the savings account route too. I do it for my dog as her insurance won't pay out for her cushings anymore and I need the security.

Being a veteran, I only get £1000 cover for external injuries. Think I'd be better off saving the tenner a month then my premiums won't go up if I did have to claim, and I would have money for internal e.g. colic etc. Just in case

ETS - my horse is a veteran, not me!

We had this with NFU when we claimed for Jesper. They ended up excluding both hinds (PSD diagnosed in one), both fores (collateral ligament damage in one), colic, and 'his back and anything connected to it'!! There had never been anything wrong with his back but because they scanned it when investigating PSD it was excluded. In the end they agreed to take off the back and colic but the price was still high. We swapped to SEIB and have far more cover for far less money. NFU are a very good insurance company, who pay out on time and the like, but the price hike for us wasn't worth it.

hm. she said old system went by particulars, like excluding a whole leg when it had just been part of it, but the new system just says 'anything that's gone wrong before'.

Dizz's insurance is already close to £100 a month

Don't fancy a £50 hike

ouch indeed!!!

on a seperate note, i tried to get a quote from NFU for my horse. once i had reeled off the list of 4 exclusions he has on his current insurance (3 of which were >£3K in vets fees) they said they wouldn't touch him with a barge pole (well not those exact words!) they said they are a 'low risk' insurance company and even if their underwriters agreed to insure Andy, the premiums would be very high due to his history.. decided to stay with current insurer in the end!! incidentaly they have only increased the price slightly over the last 7yrs even tho i've had well over £10K in vets fees from them!!
