Anyone got any tips for reducing swelling on a black eye? I got kicked in the face yesterday by my horse. Purely accidental - wrong place, wrong time! I just have the most horrendous black eye, lots of swelling and a split lip. At least I still have my teeth and my face isn't caved in - I'm lucky it could have been much worse.

oooo ouch!!, i nearly got kicked in the head by one of mine the other day was a inch off cannot imagine that :o, have about ice? or going to the docs seeing if they can give you anything?

Steak is the traditional remedy. (Raw on the eye - not grilled and eaten!).

You could also try Arnica gel on the skin itself - but not on the eyelid or near any splits. Personally I'd use gel or tincture rather than cream to avoid dragging at skin which is almost certainly very sensitive at this point!

Homeopathic arnica - 60c if you can get it - taken every 2 hours for the first 24 and roughly every 6 hours thereafter. Cool - but not cold - compresses. (I guess that is what the steak was for!)

You need to encourage the bruise to come out - not try to supress it. depending on how deep the bruising is you can expect to look a bit rought for anything up to two weeks. But Arnica will reduce that time.

Rotton luck!

I have just had a black eye from a tree branch on an Endurance ride. Somebody complimented my horse whilst I was ducking under low branches and without thinking I lifted my head to say thankyou!!

A small bag of frozen peas might help, when they defrost just put them back into the freezer but take care not to eat them afterwards!!!

People do look at you though - made me realise what life must be like for folk with a permanent mark of any kind on their face.
