Well, it's certainly been an 'interesting' year!
I was mock hunting the 2 ponies over last season which was brilliant fun! My friend Chris took Ollycob for a couple of hunts and really enjoyed himself:
Unfortunately I seemed to do this a lot this year :
I think the 2 most memorable were when Sandy threw me headfirst into a XC fence at LMEQ resulting in a mild concussion, and I got my first broken bone ever (collarbone) coming off a 12.2hh sec b of all things!
I got a job breaking in 2 racehorses over the spring which was a great experience:
although resulted in a few more falls!
In April I said goodbye to my little welshie girl which was very sad, sadly she just didn't grow past 13.1hh and was too small. Hopefully she is having fun in her new home at Chessington Equestrian.
Of course just having one horse is too simple... so my new horse Millie the ex racer arrived on April Fools day:
Of course going from natives to a TB was never going to be easy and 2 weeks later Millie had a serious accident when she tried to jump a 5 bar gate from a standstill Vet recommended field rest so she had 6 weeks in the field to recover. However such a massive change in routine didn't sit well and when I got back from holiday in June Millie looked like this:
Luckily I am a member of a great forum with lots of knowledgeable people who gave me some great advice regarding feeding (thanks you lot!) and at the end of July she looked like this:
I sadly came to the conclusion that there was not enough grass for Millie at the yard I was on and made the difficult decision to move them to another yard with better grazing. I obviously made the right decision as Millie continued to gain weight and in August was looking like this:
Unfortunately Olly also put on weight...
I somehow managed to hurt my back pretty badly as well so pressure from my family and Dr meant that I stopped riding at the end of August, however in mid September I couldn't resist so took Olly cubbing as the hunt were meeting at the farm where I live. He had a brilliant day and really enjoyed himself as did I although I was paying for it for days after!
In October the horses started coming in overnight for the winter, I think they were pretty happy about it!
They came back into work then as well and we started exploring all the amazing hacking available at the yard, as well as schooling. Millie started to get over her fear of coloured poles as well:
Sadly Olly got himself kicked in the field resulting in this:
Which abscessed to had to be lanced and drained resulting in more time off for Olly!
Luckily he is all healed up and I can carry on getting him fit and hopefully can take him hunting again before the end of the season. With all being well I will get Millie out to one of the clubs mock hunts as well. Other than that the main plan is to get them ready for competing in the summer, both need a bit more muscle tone so lots of schooling planned over the winter and possibly a couple of dressage tests as well.
