So I took C to our local RC event to do a baby XC training class - we've never jumped solid fences before and haven't done much jumping in general.

It really was a baby class - lots of nice small jumps in an enclosed space so ideal for introducing babies to XC.

C was his usual chilled self - very well behaved but as the instructor commented, a bit casual about it all (I think the jumps were actually too small for him - he tends not to try over smaller jumps)

I've been working on my position - trying to give with my hands and not stand in my stirrups but sort of forgot about pushing pony on so we didn't really have the impulsion we needed but thats very easy to work on.

So piccies ...

Larger roll top (we did jump this but erm where was our impulsion)

Drop - I've never done this before and was terrified but loved this part!

Nice log but I got a bit ahead of him!

Feedback from instructor was I need to get some more impulsion over the jumps - we did jump a series of jumps to finish - first time he was a bit too fast but second attempt was much better.

For me, I need to focus on pushing my bum back a bit but she all in all l was very balanced and I always look up and sit straight.

We're doing our first XC comp at the end of the month - option sare 1'6 to 2'6 - think I'll aim for the 2' as anything smaller and I think he'll not put much effort in. The training yesterday was a fab intro and I've come away thinking that if I get the impulsion there we could easily go bigger.

I know the jumps are very small but any critique welcome!

I love how those jumps look like tiny replicas of 'normal' fences - look at the little table! Amazing!

It sounds like he'll happily go round something a bit bigger and that'll probably encourage you to ride a bit more forwards too. He's sweet and you look very relaxed and secure. Sounds like it was perfect for a bit of confidence giving and like you had lots of fun!

Well done on your first XC - if ur needing more impulsion use transitions when warmng up then change the pace of the canter - collected then open up and then back to more collected to make sure he is off ur leg :)

No CC from me, but what great photos! You can see you are both really enjoying yourselves! I just love that course, we could do with that for the Fjord! :D:D:D:D:D

Thanks all - yes it was like a minature version of proper XC jumps.

I think it was the best thing for us as I've come away from it confident that we can go bigger.

With regards to the impulsion - we normally do dressage and he's a right little powerhorse when I work him properly - it's me that seems to forget how to ride him when we're jumping lol.

No good asking me, I am just getting to grips myself with this jumping caper,
just want to say what a nice looking sausage your beastie looks ;):)
