We set off on Tuesday for Merrist Wood and I was pleasantly surprised with the journey - very easy! Genie travelled in her usual relaxed style and felt much the same about her stable... Well, it did have food in it!
A comfortable night was had by all....

...and then I was up early on Weds morning to do the arena walk. Really not sure why I bothered as her maj didn't look at anything, although had I not done it then she probably would have come the test! A bit of wait then until our test at 11.40am so I spent my time plaiting and then had plenty of time to worry.

She warmed up well, and on the whole I was pleased with the test. It felt good but usually when tests feel good they get a rubbish mark! There will be a video once I figure out how to get it off of mum's phone and onto mine, but in the meantime please imagine a bay welsh cob looking gorgeous.
Was VERY pleased to see the scoreboard a little later and see that we had posted 68.33%. As always G split the judges with a 17 mark difference between her highest and lowest score. Upon receiving our sheets I found that while the judge at H gave her a 9 for her first centre line, the judge at M only gave a 6.5... hey ho, that's part and parcel of it!
As I was first to go it was a very long and tense wait for us at the lorry, utilising the online scores to follow where I was in the class. At the halfway point we were in 6th and with a lot of smart horses still to come I was not hopeful of a top 10 finish. As the class progressed and we stayed in 6th I got more and more tense, remembering summer regionals when we were in 10th right until the last 3 scores were posted all together. I did not celebrate until there were just three scores left and we were still in 7th!
In the end we were 8th, and I am absolutely over the moon with the pony. 7th was on the same score as us but won on collectives. The judge at H had Genie in 1st which is the icing on the cake. Sadly the presentation was unmounted for 5th-10th but I did go back to the stable with her bridle to take some photos to commemorate the day...
A comfortable journey home (especially for the bichons!) and we got back to the yard about 8pm. Unloaded the pony and the bare essentials, settled her in and then it was home to flop! I am so so so so so so proud of her. (Have I mentioned I love my pony and am proud of her?)
It was lovely to see a fellow H&H'er in my class. M it was great to see you again and I'm sorry I didn't recognise you first thing in the arena walk - I really wasn't awake!!!!!
Thank you for reading, and apologies if the photos are huge...
