We have just adopted a dog - after years and years of nagging OH he finally agreed that it might be nice to have a dog. He is an old chap but really good with the kids and cats and is settling really well (after resisting a dog for so long OH volunteered to take time off work while he settled in). He came as a corgi cross - vet says possibly with a Staffie but he looks like someones brown terrier I looked after for a while - I would be interested in what people think?

He has a fair size tumour on his leg and is quite deaf but seems to understand dinner and walk by sign language

He currently wants 1.5 to 2 hours of walks a day - so my legs are aching like mad at the momment

LOL - we don't actually walk for that length of time - he likes inspecting every single rabbit hole, gap in the hedge, doggy wee spot etc and spends ages sniffing around in circles. He can walk far faster and for longer than me though

Oh he's lovely - how good of you to take on an elderly dog

He looks very much like a border x lakeland that we had - she looked like that when she was old, bless her.

Happy walking

He doesn't act like an elderly dog - he is incredibly active on walks, plays tug of war with the kids... doesn't smell funny... he just has a few age related complaints

He seems to be the ideal dog for us - possibly because he is old. I would say he was a cherished pet in his previous home - he is very relaxed but well behaved.

Good on you for taking on an older dog - they very often get looked over. An older dog is often a better bet for people who haven't had a dog before or if there has been a big gap on owning one as they are often quiter and have already learnt some manners.
