Was out hacking on Fly when I heard dogs behind me! you've guessed it, the hunt! About 15/20 riders and the whole pack! Have never hunted Fly (long story, he got asked to leave last time) and was thinking of giving it a go next week. The Whipper in trotted up to me and asked what I wanted to do and was my horse all right with hounds! Not a lot of choice really, said I would try to trot on till next junction and get out of way. Was surprised that Fly went forward albeit with an elevated step more suited to a tennessey Walking Horse! Got to turn off and let them pass, they very generously invited me to join them which im sure Fly would of loved! Graciously declined and set about getting home. What a nightmare, he pulled my arms out of sockets and reared and bucked and squealed! Remember thinking I wasn't going to make it! Got back safely with a seriously sweaty horse. Now loosing my nerve as whether to go next week or not! Surely he can't be any worse!

agree with christmas-bean, probably worse because couldn't join in. however be prepared, when you do go, most horses settle after a good canter.
have you got someone to go with? wear a green ribbon and if you are alone, talk to the secretary at the meet and see if they can recomend someone to tag along with.
why did you have to leave last time?
if fly doesn't like standing still too long, while hounds are working have you considered drag hunting?
sorry for all the questions, but easier to know what happened before.

I didn't take him before, it was his ex owner. Apparently he reared constantly as would not stand still at meet, also he fly bucked sending everyone scattering! It is the meet that worries me, once we get going he should be ok.I would prefer drag hunting anyway (don't like killing things) but don't think they exist here in Devon. xx

put a green ribbon on him. don't arrive too early and un box as late as possible, keeping on the move all the time.
no don't think there is a drag pack in devon, would have to do a bit of travelling.

This happened to me today too! Didn't see the Master and although I know him quite well doubt would've been asked to join as was wearing jeans, muck boots and a pink tabard but we had a very exciting time on the way home. Not helped by her only having snaffle in.

Given last time we hunted I ended up in a ditch i think I'd've declined anyway.

In fact I had a shoot on two sides of my field and the hunt on the other so the only other option was the other side where we have a pub!

Had a nice time talking to the beaters!
