Turned my TB mare out last night in her light weight turn out. Found her this morning under a tree shivering and soaked wet through (the rug was supposed to water proof!).

I put her fleece on when we got back to the stable to draw out the water and now she's in her stable rug - and neighing quite alot for some reason.

What else should I do? is that enough? I don't want her getting ill!

She will be fine , probably neighing to get back out , especially if she was out with company

Oh good - I just wanted to give her a hot bath and a cup of hot chocolate! She's my first horse and I am not sure of the procedures for things like this.

Hay will normally warm them up quite quickly unless they are seriously chilled.

I know how you feel. Ive had horses for many many years and I still wake in the night listening to the rain lashing down and wanting to bring them in for a warm and a cuddle....I dont, but its not easy!

My horse had no shelter in her field last night as the wind was blowing the rain right through the field and then past the trees on one side

My horse hadn't has a rug on in literally a year but I stuck her lightweight on as there was no way I could bring her in (especially as they are in today). 6am this morning she was stood with her head nearly on the floor, bum to the rain... she was keen to get into the yard and she is now rugless, stood in the yard with her stable door open - she's dragged her hay out of her stable and is eating it in the middle of the yard in the rain! The least I could do was rug her last night/offer her shelter today, but horses are tough beasties. The hay and shelter will warm them up

Know that feeling well! Mine were miserable yesterday pm so brought them in with hay to warm up and they were soon begging to go out again. Hay/long fibre warms them up from the inside because the bacteria used for digestion give off heat, literally, so it's much the best way to warm them up.

I'm glad it wasn't just me last night! Usually if I think it is going to chuck it down my guys will have their little rain sheets on - but it was so warm and clear last night I was convinced they would be ok. Poor George this morning was stood in the field looking less than impressed and shivering!! Bless him! I don't know how he survived before he came to me as he was never stabled! I think he must be turning a bit poofy since he has come to me!!

My big horse was out all night with no rug and how mean do I feel? He was so cold he couldn't keep his legs still when I bought him in, he's now all dry and warm with lots of hay and out in the barn as he can't live in a stable, he won't be out naked in that weather again!!

Mine have been in for 2 days now as the paddocks are under water! They don't seem to mind, took B for a pick of grass in hand this morning and he was outside for 5 mins before he decided he preferred his warm stable and big haynet - Yes I know I own a total wimp, no one ever told him horses are waterproof

mine was out and he was a TB but he won't come in because hes the "leader" of the herd and any rain sheet i put on is destroyed in about 30 seconds so he has to stay out
he has shelter though and seemed happy as larry tbh although i still feel mean

with hay and a nice dry rug she'll be just fine

My horse was out naked last night, as were 5 others out o a 24 horse herd (rest out with rugs). He may have gotten damp but they're on the spring gass so that should keep them warm internally and getting a bit wet&cold (the horror!) will help keep some weight off. I'm pretty sure horses don't melt in the rain

Oh good I wasn't the only one then that left their horse out all night with no rug!

I bet no one elses horses ran away when they went to get them in, even tho Axey was standing by the gate shivering...

Ours were out all night with no rugs and very little shelter, It was an evil night, but the are all fine.
