Our 2 JRT's are generally very good around any dog to the point where they will have a quick sniff and tail wag and walk on. The bitch is more inclined to go and greet another dog whereas the dog is totally toy obsessed and ignores them. Last night he dropped his toy and went for a young cocker. I was horrified! he has never behaved like that. The only thing I can think of that could have triggered it is we have been walking with my mums young cocker and he's abit full on. Our dog has never bitten him though. Should I treat it as a one off and carry on as normal or start putting him on a lead around other dogs? He didn't even growl he just chased it and nipped it.

I think that if he has done it once he could do it again and therefore the only responsible thing to do is keep him on a lead when around dogs he doesn't know. It is not nice being on the receiving end of that sort of behaviour - I know from experience, and you could find yourself having to foot the cost of someone's vet bill or your dog could get hurt if he decides to pick on something that will defend itself.
