Out of date supplements?

Shop near me is selling supplements off very cheap that are out of date.
Wondered if a-that's legal (don't think it is with human food even reduced)
B-safe and still effective?
They are reduced to £3 a tub from over £25 for joint care

Are they best before dates or use by dates? That matters I think.

It is legal as they are not intended for the human food market. I've bought out of date supplements - but not too of date and not too much. I wouldn't stock up on a year's worth - but a couple of months worth of something only just out of date wouldn't bother me.

Actually I'm not sure if it was use by (think it was) or best before.
I'm not buying any personally as I already use joint supplements that I'm happy with.

Shops are allowed to sell products after the best before date has passed. The best before date is the manufacturers estimate of when the quality of its product may start to deteriorate and isn't when it should be discarded.

Most supplements are "best before" and it just means that the ingredients may not be as active after that date or its flavour and texture might not be as good but that it is not dangerous to use them after the date.

Use by is about safety and it mainly for products that go off quickly.

I would, as Shay said if I was already using the brand I'd buy a month or so if it was just out of the best before. I'd probably mix it with an indate supplement, if I had some.

But £25 down to £3 is a big saving.
