Had emergency call out for a deep cut to a frog(n horse not for an amphibian!) a month ago.
Have just had the bill and the standard call out of £30 is there plus out of hours of £50. Making £80- Plus vat,of course.
Does this seem excessive? I swear I only usually have the higher amount when out of hours, not the standard call out too.
I have rung the vet who just said if I haven't been billed the standard call out in the past, I have been lucky!
The bill in total was £390 which must make the horses frog gold coated now!

One of the vets in Norfolk charges on a danger scale, so you would have the out of hours call out, plus X pounds depending on which bit of a horse was checked (temperature taking is expensive :D). Out of interest, what was done?

We charged our clients £150 exam fee for out of hours, plus travel and treatment. If a colic was admitted out of hours by the time we admitted it, worked it up, so checked vital signs, done bloods, belly tap, scan, rectal, stomach tube and iv catheter the bill would easily be £500. Im lucky in that i don't need to get my horses seen very often but in hours my visit fee is £50 and then the exam fee is £30, these also have vat on top and there is no zone day.

sound about right.

Our of hours is an emergency service only, owners would only do it if the situation cannot wait till Monday.

when in doubt get the vet!!. In my case don't care what the cost... If horse in life threatening situation no price is too much..............

Ours is a flat rate call out in office hours (high thirties ) and double out of hours, just shy of £80, it's a weird amount, not a round figure.

On the plus side if you call out of hours you can normally get hold of a vet to talk to who to the best of their ability will say wait till monday, i'll be out soon or get in a box and rush to horsepital.

Horse had antibiotic jab, "advice and examine" injury, Terramycin spray, and left us with 5 days course of antibiotic powder Which said horse hated(norodine) and we had couldn't get him to eat at all, as he thought it was so foul. The granules were too big to use in a syringe, so then had to get paste (duphatrim) at vast extra expense!
So,seems my call out is actually not that bad, compared with the rest of you! Shall not moan quite so much now!

Sounds about right-After all your vet had to put their evening on hold to treat your horse, so can expect to be paid for the privilege-it actually sounds like a v. cheap ooh to me!

My vets call out is £25 24 hours a day, very helpful for when my old mare had colic prior to being PTS. He is also very good, and if they have to come out twice in one day he will split the call out fee to £12.50 per visit :)
