I dont know, I am going to get lots of things from saddlery today an deither getting topspec or outshine, topspec should last about two months and i have used it before and cannot remember actual price but is over 20 a bag so guess outshine would be the same i think?

Im going too but I reakon she will have to order it in. If you get some let me know how you find it. I have seen it advertised alot but dont know anyone thats used it.

Im going to find out today!

I tried outshine and it is a total waste of time! I have an EPSM horse, so I am big in to high oil feeding. Outshine is ruinously expensive at about £30 a bag.

You would achieve the same results by buying some corn oil from sainsburys at 57 p a bottle and mixing it with some HappyHoof.

If you use a liquid oil, a fussy horse is more likely to eat it because you can blend it in with a carrier feed, like chaff. Outshine is basicly oil soaked nuggets... a fussy horse can easily pick them out.

If you go for liquid oil, main points to concider are....

Linseed oil in high volume irritates the gut. Corn oil is the most palitable. Any non hydrogonated oil will do.

You can feed up to 1/4 a pint of oil per day without having to suplement selenium.

Introduce the oil slowly, literaly a drip at a time and build up to the desired quantity slowly.

If the messyness of liquid oil puts you off.... Outshine is 25% oil, Alfa A oil is 10 % oil. You can get the same oil in to a horse by feeding about 2-3 x as much Alfa Oil as you would Outshine... miles cheaper!

I am feed the said horse oil right now as well as build up cubes and mix plus A oil plus he is getting supplements but he is very hard to get weight on so trying anything really, going to buy topspec tomorrow and see how much the outsine is.

i think its good stuff and i get the spearmint one so he gobbles it up

vvv shiny coat, and it is much nicer than pouring a whole lot of oil in his feed. it is v expensive-£30 a bag, although this lasts for about a month.

Sorry to hikack the Outshine post. However I'mm interested to hear that Top Spec has a recommendation. Does it work well for horses fed a predominately fibre diet?

My 5 yo ISH lives out 24/7 and is fed Top Spec balancer with a high fibre diet. She maintains fantastic condition and a shiny coat. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I have been using outshine for about three weeks and I'm really pleased with it! I use it for coat shine and stamina. My mare was doing more work and although she didn't need more energy as she was fine initially, she was becoming tired too soon. She looks great now on the Outshine and she has the stamina needed

With regard to Alpha Oil - some horses are sensitive to alfalfa and I don't like to feed it at all. In addition there is problem with feeding too much of Omega 6 or 3 without the other (I can't recall which at the mo!) since both are ready balanced for me and include the selenium and vitamins A and C (as required with over a certain amount of oil), it makes my job easier. Its also mess free and lasts for ages so its not that expensive
