hi there,
I need some advice re what to do with my mare please
I'll give you some background before i start. I've had her 4 years and shes always been very bolshy, however shes not consistently naughty and has a very jeckyll and hyde sort of personality. shes a 10 year old cob and has had atleast one foal before i bought her. she seems to just flip personality when she sees something exciting or is put under pressure. shes a bit of a tart and seems to always be in season though for the first few years this never seemed to effect her personality. This last summer her personality completely changed and she became agressive and abit mental so i rang the vet and he recommended regumate, she went on it for a month and was a different horse
the idea was we would have her scanned to see if anything was wrong with her ovaries if she responded to it however the vet went off the face of the earth and she seemed settled when i took her off it. shes been fine all summer since though probably slightly more exciteable than normal. the last month or so shes been really bad if shes sees/ hears another horse while i'm leading or riding, she tries bucking me off to get to them and i can no longer hack in company even with the most chilled horse as she just kicks off!
i'm not sure if shes just feeling fresh as i can't ride through the week with the dark nights, though she is normally lazy but exciteable if that makes any sense :s
but then i also think i should now get hold of a different vet and get her scanned. Also i don't know wether ulcers are something to think about as they cause behaviour change, but i know little about them so could just be barking up the wrong tree lol.
Also i would like to know the costs side of it all, shes insured with NFU but do i have to pay if it turns out shes just a mardy mare, or is it relatively low cost and worth just paying straight out for anyway?
sorry for the rant, i'm just unsure of what to do. Thank you very much for anyone who got this far
