Today, a friends mare was in horspital for investigations into her reluctance to go forward under saddle, resistance to a contact, threatening to rear( which she has done to the point of being vertical) .We had been thinking for a while that it may have had something to do with her seasons and therefore her ovaries. She had been on Regumate until recently and for a short while it had seemed to be working.

After many tests, she had her ovaries scanned and an 8cm haematoma was found on the left ovary. Bloods have been taken and a rescan is being arranged at a later date. It has been said that although there is something there, the vets didnt think it would be causing her to react in the way she had been. Surely any growth or swelling would cause some discomfort?!

If the bloods show that there is a change in the haematoma, and it is producing hormones, that she will need it/them removed but that this a relatively new procedure. There is very little feed back to go on and it may or may not help.

Does anyone have any experience of the op and or its success rate?? It is a big op to undergo with no guarantee that its going to work.
