He’s just overweight 14.3 with new shoes on ?‍♀️

thinking of doing a few M&m classes locally this summer and maybe some novice Working Hunters. Any other ideas for classes with a very pretty, wink at the judge, golden boy?

Is it an upper height limit for Connies, or a "Preferred height range"?
For affiliated classes and those unaff that state 'registered' they are max 14.2.

OP, as mentioned above, check every schedule. If its local and registered and unreg are together, then you'll be fine. Likewise if no mention of conforming to breed standard, that's also ok too.

Psst, you have put overweight not overheight in your post ? I hope he's not overweight! ??

I wasn't sure for Connies, as for Exmoors, it's a preferred range. Pony would only be penalised if judge was stuck between 2 & one was within the range & one not.
Dave is over the preferred range, but never excluded.
It used to be 12.2 for mares and 12.3 for stallions and geldings.
Huge furore one year in the early 90s as a rather large mare won a fair bit, then measured at 13hh so was overheight and against the rules as they were then. At AGM rules were then changed by a very close vote.
Previous to this, any 'big' ones used to just not go affiliated showing.

No problem if just over would be my guess so 14.3 unless officially measured as even at affiliated level my officially measured 14.2 was always the smallest in the class so a bit over might not be that noticable

Ditto this, often show ponies will be measured without shoes and with feet well trimmed etc so I'd be surprised if your 14.3 looks out of place.

No, show condition is the polite phrase I believe ?

Interesting. He’s officially registered. Maybe I'm just too literal ?‍♀️?‍♀️

OP, have you actually had him jmb measured with feet balanced and without shoes? Or put a spirit level on when farrier has pulled his shoes off?
Yeah, I think I’ll just call him 14.2. Sounds like he’s not going to look out of place, and might just look a bit small ??

If hes 14.3 with shoes on he’d almost certainly be height certificated at 14.2 if you wanted to get him under… without much trouble at all
My friend had a pony we consistently measured (without shoes) at 131cm. He then sold to a showjumping home - they took a punt as he'd only done pony club stuff with novice kids. He turned out to be a bit of superstar and lo and behold, measured in to 128 classes, which added about £5k to his value. It's definitely doable.

Brilliant.. you lot are ace! So next question. I have a Shires Avimore bridle with fancy stitching to nose and brow band. Too flash for M&M? Do I need a plain hunter noseband / browband? It’s this one ??

It's actually 148 cm not 14.2. 148 cm is just over 14.2 so you have a bit of wiggle room. when I measured one of mine he was 14.3 but easily measured in at 148 cm on official measurement. They still all look huge compared to him,
Good point! Without shoes and freshly done pedicure, he’d definitely be at or under 148cm. ?

Have you actually measured him, in cm, with any accuracy and allowed for shoes? Most turn out to be smaller than you think I find. That aside, read the rules of the show you are entering. Most unaff shows are suitably vague!
