Just curious to know how long over reach boots stay 'intact' on your horse, as my mare seems to destroy them within a matter of days! She has the rubber ones that are done up with velcro straps, I think even if she had more expensive stronger ones she'd still manage to destroy them somehow! All the straps have either been ripped off or are hanging by threads, and most of the rubber is shredded lol. I do take them off to clean them, but if she has them off for more than 15 mins she'll end up standing on her own feet (she's very clumsy) and loosening a shoe. They generally last her from about 1 week, or sometimes upto a month or so..just wondered if anyone else's horse destroys their over reach boots too lol

Not long with my mare, she rips them off with her teeth, i just buy the cheap pull on ones off ebay and turn them up hwne she comes in

My youngster is turned out in them (comes in at night when they are removed) & sometimes they can last a couple of weeks & sometimes a couple of days ! I bulk buy the rubber shires, with velcro, off ebay so I always have spares.

I have the rubber, neoprene and hard plastic petal boots. The rubber and neoprene last a matter of days before they have holes and chunks missing, allough they are lasting onger now the farrier is trimming his toes a little shorter and squarer...

The petal boots i find are the hardiest and last the longest. over htree months so far, ...... But the noise drives me potty!!

I cant moan at the constan purchases though as they are obviously doing their job! Maybe someone needs to invest a btter material that will still protect - but last longer......

:D

Hmm. Sore point. M pulled a hind shoe off by twisting it earlier this year, taking 2 big chunks of foot with it. As he only grows hoof very, very slowly he's having to have an overreach on the right hind to protect the nails and shoe.

An old injury means he is VERY close behind, so manages to catch the boot a lot, even though he rarely hoons around. I've tried Woofs (one pair, one week - so that's 3.5 days per boot), Roma's (2 pairs, nearly 3 weeks): got some Westropp petal boots, but they're chunkier and I'm worried he'll trip up, so haven't used them.... oh - and about 15 rubber ones. In just about 8 weeks. The 16th should be on him in the paddock now.

3 months and still going!! I use the rubber pull on ones a size too big! I was going through the Velcro ones in a fortnightly basis!!!

the woof ones with kevlar are the best for me, my horse if awful with them too, need to keep them on to help with shoes staying on. But I change them each day as hate to think of him stood in with wet boots. So thats lots of pairs for me, the woof ones are about £33 per pair, so am just trying some HKM ones, not sure how they will fair, but a lot of the rubber ones are too short and don't cover his bulbs and some a just rubbish and break really easily! I have loads of rubber ones in my shed that need to go onto ebay!

Well....my last pair were amazing and lasted.......a day :-)
I give up, it's been a long time since he pulled a shoe *touch wood* that I'm trying without.
I did have the most amazing pair bought as a joke by a fellow livery as they were shocking pink....these of course lasted a year nearly!

Velcro ones last only about 2 weeks on my clumsy youngster. In the summer I use the pull on ones as he is out 24/7 and these last a few months.
Have just bought some Roma neoprene no turn ones do will be interested to see how long these last.
