Over reach boots

Afternoon

Just looking at the 100's of types of over reach boots and dont know which are best!

They are to be used for turn out (horse seems to have a tendancy to pull front shoes off recently!)

Which ones are best? Soft but strong......... obviously they wont be used in wet/mud (she will go into her turnout chaps then)

My front-shoe-pulling idiot is in the Shires rubber ones with the velcro fastenings.

On the plus-side he hasn't pulled a shoe since he's had them on (touch wood) and they don't rub as he's turned out 24/7 in them (touch wood again).

On the down side they're obviously not knobber-proof as on Saturday when I brought him in from the field he had found something/some way of slicing right through the boot and providing me with a nice bloody mess underneath :rolleyes: No idea how as there is no wire etc in the field. They're not tough enough for him anyways!

Also the Shire's largest size is too small for my thug so will swap to a Masta now replacing this pair as they do an XXL.

I have fettish for OR boots (some people like collecting rugs...I like buyng OR boots!...yes very sad I know), not because they keep pulling shoes off, more just an extra preventative measure really but I just like having different coloured ones, my boy is currently in some bright yellow rubber velcro ones, I spot his feet before the rest of his body, before then he has some purple ones, could do with another pair for the TB actually, ....hmmm what colour? *thinks*

I like the rubber ones (with velcro) because you can easily wash them and dry them for field use and hacking.

Some come lined with sheepskin for extra comfort to prevent rubs on sensetive skins and to wick away sweat, there more your working OR boot.

Others are made out of neaprene, leather, some are made out of this gel type rubber that are shaped like a horses foot, I can imagine you have fun putting those on as I've not bought a pair of those.

Premier Equine do ones to match there boots.

Some are designed not to spin round.

Or you could re-live the 80s (I think) and buy the petal OR boots that make that clappy clap noise when your cantering along! :D

HKM and Professional Choice do some funky ones in various colours patterns!
 
My mare wear the XL Shires over reach boots with velcro for turnout and everyday and I find they last about 6months. She has a posh pair of Eskadron ones with the sheepskin for parties :)
 
My TB wears them for turnout and I find the best ones are the cheap quick release ones from Robinsons. We have a stream in our fields and the velcro ones become really hard to remove when wet so find the buckle type fastening far easier esp on cold nights when your hands are numb LOL!
 
I've found the Woof Wear Kevlar ones to be excellent. Very tough, no anti-spin knob to rub him & actually big enough to do the job! As they're neoprene on the inside I do have a one to wear, one to dry policy for the winter so he's never stood for long periods in wet boots.
 
I have Sprenger rubber bell boots, they are brilliant, stretchy and the rubber gets thicker towards the bottom of the boot jasp has xxxl front hooves and I really struggle to find boots to fit. My first pair lasted 4 winters, no rubbing or losing of shoes even in suction mud! :-)
 
I have the Westropp Petal Over Reach Boots as find my mare rips the others off ever month. At 7 pounds a time it was getting expensive past time for her.. lol Only 99p for a petal so 4 a month was cheaper..Have tryed them all and she would come in with one missing and a cut to show for it..Found the petal ones cheaper and if she got one off her foot was cut free.
