I prefer material ones as they can breath a little better.

Be careful with material ones to buy a good pair that joinis flush i.e. does stick up where it overlaps as this can rub more.

Yes they are, in my opinion.

Patches has to wear them when turned out now as her shoes are extended behind for heel support. Farrier expressly told me not to use rubber ones as they could rub her, or at the very least to apply a smearing of vaseline to her heels before putting a boot on should I want to use rubber.

Mine are Neoprene outers and soft inside.

Yes I think so as the rubber ones ase more inclined to rub and if you use them for xc if you jump into water the can very easily turn inside out!
I would go with neoprene all the way!

I bought a pair of the Roma material ones because Storm catches the insides of her front pasterns and her coronary band with the opposite hoof and she had gouged massive holes in them after one wear!

I have neoprene ones and they are great, never ever rub, but they are a tiny bit long so im looking for some more. She wore rubber ones once and they rubbed. What are peoples views on those petal ones, at the moment i hate them because of the noise, but westropp are bringing out a silent version. Just wondering if i should go for those? Do they rub? Sorry for hi-jacking your thread!

The ones I post are not long at all - may be worth a look.

Personally I love petal OR boots AND I love the noise, I used them until I was about 23 as they remind me of being a kid LOL!

Thankyou! I used to love the noise but now i hate it! Actually i havnt had some for ages so i might like it again now, im not sure, my tastes change quite regularly! Those Woof ones do look very good, a friend has some of their Kevlar(sp?) ones and i love them but they would be miles too deep for her. I will look out for those ones though. I am very tempted by the petal ones, if i remember rightly they arnt deep, but the horse i had them one was very different to Sunny, and i think they are the safest for xc. What do people think of the neoprene westropp ones? Link: http://www.westropphorseboots.co.uk/wb17_neo_or.html, They look like the neoprene would rip if the horse over reached so i wasnt sure, has anyone got them? Sorry, so many questions and its not my thread!

Sunny I will take a pic of mine on horse tomorrow - they are not deep at all and may well suit what you need perfectly

Yes I agree, petals are safest for XC, I wouldn't use rigid ones ever!

I used to use the Westropp overreach boots but you're quite right, they do overreach straight through them (happened to my horse twice). It's a shame because I like the length of them. I now use the rubber ones with velcro fastenings. I buy them a bit too small and then they're short enough that they don't tread on them.

hello I have just bought the petal ones as the neoprane ones with velcro fastenings don't stay on my horse, he just pulls them off. Hope the petal ones will work better.

Thanks Weezy, that would be great!

I havnt seen the petal ones up close for a long time, people who have them- if they were too long do you thing i could trim them down with scissors? Thats what i have had to do with the rubber ones, so if i could do it with them that would be ideal. Thankyou!

Oh and Hoo-ya you can get spare petals to make them bigger, unless the strap is too short aswell!

I have both... i mainly use the rubber ones because i can only hack and with the weather being so wet the neoprene ones dont dry fast enough unless i take them home

plus i need a bigger size in my neoprene ones as i dont think they'll be long enough to protect him if he does over reach.
