Over riding with seat in canter

Hey guys, all in all I’m pretty happy with my position however I’ve noticed recently that I tend to be over riding with my seat whenever I canter and I hate the way it looks. My upper body is steady, as are my legs but I just push my hips far too much, partly as I mostly ride less responsive horses so I feel as though I’m over compensating.
Any tips to stop this?

I will give you my favourite go to exercise! Imagine the horse is like one of those old carousel horses with the pole in the front that goes up and down. Now imagine yourself going up and down that pole with the movement of the canter stride. Once you've got that, imagine that there is a conveyor belt that runs up from your hips, up your chest and down the back of your shoulders. This should help you to go with the canter movement and not push forward with the hips.

Thank you! I’ll try this tomorrow and see if it makes any difference.

I cantered happily out hacking and when I was first cantered on the lunge remarked that it was like the big roundabout. My RI was very cross. I do like riding the big roundabout so I dont see the problem. And think this poster's advice may help you enjoy it. Canter is for fun.
