Im feeling a little worried and a little frustrated, my 4 year old was turned out at a friends for a while as he was having a little joint issue he came back to the yard as it was not suiting him we have only been on the yard since November.
He has been back a fair few weeks settled back in immediately, goes out down the same path daily and sees all the same things daily like he did before including trains which run on the adjacent verge to the track. They are loud granted and they come at quite a clip. He has never once been upset by one in the light or even in the dark with lights on etc until a few days ago when on turn in we were ambling back to the yard as usual all relaxed and muddy and the train came and I could see him anticipating it going past, he tried to dive left and right shot forward and snorted as it went past, I was very calm and even laughed as he is usually so calm. Patted him spoke to him and walked on, didnt give it a second thought, days later it seems to be becoming a real issue for him, I am walking him up and down staying calm and reassuring him, keeping a distance as the trains go past so he can see them at a safer distance but he seems to be getting worse not better, this is the only way to the turn out! I love my yard and dont want to move, also the hacking, the track runs parallell for about 20 mtrs. He isnt ridden as he is backed and turned away until spring.
Ground work wise he is over poles, tarps, ropes, hoses, doesnt spook at anything generally, he backed well with no issues, he was hacked fine when he went for pro schooling. I am upset he is upset! I want to help him through this. I havnt started walking him out yet from this yard but have done from the last one since he was little, I chose this yard for the offroad hacking, I planned to do this when it starts warming up but I feel I will be putting us both in danger going along the first part of the hack route out (there is no other route except a 60 zone and I wont risk going down there!), he is on the barefoot diet, high fibre, oil no alfalfa low sugar and starch a balancer and is on hay. He is in good but not fat condition.
Cuppa and bikkies for anyone getting this far!
All help appreciated.
