im confused.
i have noticed that most people go cross country without an overgirth
what do other people do?
i go with one

No event riders i've ever groomed for bar one (and there have been lots!) have used them. The one who did, I remember putting it on a few times at probably novice level but was at Bramham with her last week and it wasn't used.

Think they are an old fashioned thing, i'd hope my girth wouldnt break but then i thought tat about my stirrups one of which did last season!

The person I worked with used them everytime without fail, even at Intro. The thought being it does no harm to have one, and can make a serious difference if anything does happen! Having said that, never used one on G, and my saddle is designed to take one!! Each to their own I suppose, but when we get a bit more competitive an ddo more challenging courses, I will use one.

I've used an ovgergirth once or twice but find them fiddly to adjust and at that last minute before you go into the xc start box and realise your girth could go up another hole, over-girths just add to the stress!!

I dont use one. I used to when I rode ponies (simply because I was told to in pony club!) but haven't since then. I mean, how often would a girth snap anyway?! Is there any proof that it would help? If you're girth broke, would you actually notice it had happened if the over-girth held it in place for a while?

Griths can and do snap on a regular basis! Was at Stonar last year when a well known event riders girth broke, she was only saved from tumbling by her overgirth!

I've always used them, again part of pony club training and with the thinking that it can never do any harm. They are a hassle, especially when you want to adjust the girth, but I guess I just make sure I'm ready to go from the minute I get on so I've never had too much trouble. I also use one for hunting, but its been years since I last saw anyone else with one, and always wondered why...
