My horse overheats really easily i have fully clipped her apart from legs and half head and she has a mediumweight turnout and a mediumweight stable rug. She is really ithcy though. And i dont really want to put on a lightweight because im afriad she might get cold and shes quite prone to getting a cough and runny nose. Dont really know what to do. any suggestions?

If she's too hot in MW rug then I guess your only option is go down a level! I assume you're not using the 2 rugs together...?! If she's itchy, all you can do is groom her really well.

I agree - and would also add that if she gets hot and sweaty when you ride her, do make sure you wash her off properly afterwards. You'll often find a dirty horse is an itchy horse.

I would also add that my horse is fully clipped, and I am still playing around with rugs. Some days he is in a heavyweight, some days in a medium weight. The weather has been so changeable, that I've had to be too.

shes groomed everyday and comes in from field usually spotless anyway. she never really gets too sweaty after being ridden as shes clipped and shes always cooled off after work and brushed.

Could you perhaps put a lightweight on and put a fleece underneath?

Maybe wash her down with some hot (as hot as you can handle) water and add a bit of vinagar, or show shine then sick a cloth in, wring it out as much as you can and wipe her over. My horse loves it and it gets rid of all those loose hairs and bits of greese.

I thought I had a hot horse, but mine is in a HW during the day and HW + LW at night!! His is literally bald after his clip though
