does any body have any experiance of mares in season with painful ovaries, which in turn cause lameness on the back end??

Yip - good ten years ago though! A friend of mine in Germany bought an 11yo Hanovarian mare, who seemed sweetness & light for about two weeks - came into season & literally would boot anyone who tried to pick out her hind feet. It was hard to see she was "lame" since both hind feet had the same action - not really "lameness" - just pain inhibiting movement.

She wasn't being awful - after several vet visits, & various scans etc - turns out she had cysts on both ovaries, which became more engorged around ovulation, & probably awful during her season.

Get 'em checked out is the best bet!

did you sort out the problem with your mare ? I have a similar problem and vets refuse to accept that hind lameness is anything to do with coming in season ! she is lame for 24 hours in hind usually in one leg and then other -only happens in spring summer -just come into season now and is on 3 legs
starts slow-and gets worse -cost me so far £200 with no answers!! did you get any??
