Yesterday evening a new cat showed up in the garden. I think this is a young, neutered male (I have difficulty telling the difference between them and females). He's very affectionate and curious; he knows to keep his claws in when playing and at first I thought he might have been declawed, but I found him a magpie feather, ran it up a tree trunk for him to chase and he got out his claws to dig into the trunk.

He was wearing a collar, but nothing written on it and no disc. My chip reader had no charge left in it. :(

When Tabitha came around he was polite enough to not go bounding up to her, but walked up slowly, judging her reaction. She arched her back and turned sideways-on to make herself look bigger, and he crouched down in a submissive posture; she walked past him slowly and then left.

He is quite skinny, but clean and smells clean. I gave him a little bit of hard food and a saucer of water before I went to bed, and he was in the garden the next morning, waiting for me.

I decided to call him Michael; he spent all morning in the garden with me, either following me around or dozing on the firepit cover (where his saucer of water was).

I took some pictures and went to look on the town's Fesse-Bouc page to see if there were any posts about a missing cat, and there was one with a photo of one very similar to Michael, but wearing two collars. I posted a picture I'd taken and sent an SMS to the phone number in the thread. His owner came round to collect him within a quarter of an hour.

He seemed to enjoy his brief stay here. His real owner says he'll keep Michael indoors for a couple of days before letting him out again. I'll not be too surprised to see him come back, though.

Well done for reuniting Michael with his owner and looking after him. Hopefully, he is chipped and they put a number on his collar in case he wanders again.

I like his face :D

That's good that Tabitha showed him who's boss and he submitted. At least when he comes round again there shouldn't be a scrap.

Tabitha came to visit tonight. She was a little bit more nervous than usual; keeping an eye out for Michael, I suppose.

I bet you haven't seen the last of him, either! What's his actual name. You guessed correctly with 'he'.
How can you tell he's a he, from the flank and forehead pictures?
