Hi, any reccomendation for overeach boot for turnout, my farrier is not going to be pleased if I loose more shoes! Also can I put them on back feet?

Thanks!

yep, i turn my new mare out in the cheap rubber ones that do up with velcro, much easier than pull-on ones.
farrier has shod her with long heels in front for support, and asked me to put overreach boots on for turnout. they don't rub at all... i suspect that the thicker wraparound ones would rub if left on for 7-8 hours a day.

They are a great help, stopped my lad pulling a shoe off on a weekly basis!!I prefer the bell boots with the soft tops(Easier to get on and they softer on the skin, stay put too),if you are to put these on though you must make sure they are clean when you bring neddy in and turn them up to let the air to the underneath,be sure to keep a close eye for any rubs too!!I never had a problem with these, found the velcro 1's and the ones with the strap used to break quite easily!!

Seriously though - if the issue is that the horse is pulling his shoes off by treading on the front ones with his back feet, perhaps he has too much length on the shoe????

I just use Velcro ones, I usually get through a pair a month! but that's on the front feet, you might be better off trying a sausage boot to hopefully stop your horse getting closes enough to step on his own back feet & pulling its shoes off? one of the horses at our yard wares sausage boots on both back feet & it seems to have helped her.

My horse got really bad rubs while wearing overeach boots in the field. Maybe try the soft neoprene ones you can get from Premier Equine. As hadfos said, keep an eye out for rubs and mud and dirt on the boots when you take them off.

George goes out with the rubber shires ones that fasten with velcro and touch wood they don't seem to rub. He is shod long at the heels in front because he has low heels.

I've been turning out Ronnie in the Roma rubber/velcro ones - only about £3.99 and one pair has lasted months and months, more expensive ones died within a week or two. Haven't rubbed yet but they do get clogged with mud and have to scrubbed (I've even put them in the washing machine

) I don't think he's lost any shoes since wearing them, or at least not as many as he was losing.

Ditto, Roma and Shires (4.95) have lasted double the length of time as the more expensive equilibrium and professional choice ones and are much easier to clean and don't rub

I just use the cheap plastic velcro ones, as he tends to damage them (rather than his feet!) regularly! One thing I can suggest is to use white ones - although they will show up the dirt, they are much eisier to find in the field if they do fall off!
