Any ideas? My mare has over reached on her front fore and has a circular flap of skin which wont close to the wound but doesnt hang if that makes sense. Any ideas of what to put on it or to keep it closed? She is not lame and it hasnt been bleeding.
Cheers

if a large' flap' i wud make sure all bacteria is removed or any debris of ne kind( nice and clean) and then bandage until the start of granulation, keeping the flap as flush as poss to the area u wish it to heal to! had a horse take a massive chunk off bulb and stuck it back on this way, once granulation has started it shud stick easier! j

My farrier recommended a really old fashoined product .Its called stockholm tar its antibacterial or antiseptic really thick and goey but you can paint it on and it stops all the mud getting into the wound .The wound healed quickly and cleanly.

my lad took basically half of his heel off last year like this.
I cleaned it up with hibiscrub then bandaged it with animalintex (to absord any cr*p coming out and to see if it was bleeding/weeping) and vetrap. he wasn't lame at all either and i felt mean, but kept him in for 10 days changing the bandage daily. he then went out with the bandage on for a few days.
he had taken he shoe off too, but my farrier said to wait until the foot was healing before he put it back on. When he did come out about 2 weeks after the injury he said it had healed really well and to start working him again.
that was just over a year ago, and you can't tell now - plus he hasn't overreached since - so maybe he's learnt his lesson!

I have also used stockholm tar on a really bad shoulder injury that had a flap of skin and it healed up fine.Only if you look closely can you see any trace of it. Used to put it on with a paint brush.
