Well, for my resolution this year I have promised myself that I will do an overseas ride for a horsey charity, either in 2011 or 2012.

Obviously I know to speak to the organisers etc about how to arrange things etc, but the amount to raise seems like an awful lot to somebody who only donates X amount per month, and I've never actually raised money myself!!!

Does anyone have any experience of one of these or ideas as to how I could raise the money? I think you usually need to raise about £2-3000!!

Any ideas gratefully received :-D

My friend did one of those recently, in Mongolia, I think it was organised by the BHS

She had to stump up the £2k+ with a few family sponsors

She really enjoyed it, not something I would do but she enjoyed it and she went on her own, she wanted to do something different instead of the normal holidy !

So unfortunately you will need to start saving !

Snap!! I also decided to have a different type of holiday this year, although realsitically it might be next, and do a ride for charity...

Only thing is they are really expensive and then you have to pay for your flights etc on top of that.
I saw a reallly amazing one in Mozambique though, the riding looks fantastic out there!

I would be interested if you find anything/where else that looks good!! :D

Ooh mozambique would be lovely!!!

I've not really looked at where's available this year yet, was trying to mull over the monetary side of things before I get too excited!!!

Though I you do find any others, let me know and vice versa eh :-) t'would be good to have a pal to motivate me!!!

If I have a plan and a few ideas I'm sure I'll get the money, just am not entirely sure where to start!!!

i know you want to do the ride as a charity ride, but many of the same routes are available for half that price just as a holiday. as for raising the cash i would approach local businesses, approach your local newspaper asking them to do an article on you and raise the need for sponsorship. car boot sales, friends and family, work collegues etc. run a little show on your yard, entry fees being sponsor money? Good luck.

Ooh I'd have never thought of the newspaper!!!

And yeah I could just pay for the holiday, but I figure that whilst I'm at Uni is the time when I'm most likely to be able to fundraise, and later in life I'm pretty sure I'll just pay for them and More than likely never bother with the charity side...

I like the look of the Spartacus Ride in Bulgaria for the BHS. It is in June and you have to raise £1800 plus £250 deposit. I thought about running a photo show either online or at a local tack/feed shop.

It is a brilliant thing to do, I did a cycle challenge - London to Paris in 3 days. It really was one of those money can't buy experiences :)
