Oversized connemaras?

I know someone who's recently bought a 5 year old 15.2hh "registered connemara". I personally thought it wasn't possible to have a connemara thats 15.2, I didn't think they could get this big? I was talking to my vet about it, and he said that at 15.2, the horse couldn't be registered as a connemara, because its too big. However; my friend swears it can be? Out of curiostiy, who's right?

I was always under the impression this breed could not exceed 15hh? I could be wrong though.

They can and do frequently grow this big, but you would be unable to enter an affiliated showing class with one over 14.2hh, there are alot of bigger connies out there though that are fantastic little sports horses or working hunters, so unless she wants to show then why worry??

I’m pretty sure my sister’s connie is registered (he is a class 2) and he is 15hh. However she has no interest in showing him, so doesn’t really matter.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong but I *believe* a class 1 registered connemara has to meet certain criteria which includes being between 128cm to 148cm.

A connemara over or under this height can be registered as a class 2 or 3 connemara (providing it meets certain other criteria)

I will watch this thread with interest as I have a 15h connemara. His green book states that he is a class 1, however, that was when he measured 14.2. He has grown since then

As with all breed societies, they will be "registered" as a foal, so therefore will not know what adult height it....

However they wouldn't be able to show them as anything over 14.2 would be classed as over height.

I have a Connie who is at least 15.2hh he is regested in the sports section as he is a gelding and regested as a foal, and as gelding did not have to go up for inspection as a filly or stallion would do.
He could not be shown in a reg. M and M class, tho there are overhight classes at shows now.

They can be registered at any size if they are full connemara bred but they would be Class 2 or 3 depending on whether they pass the vet inspection and the sight inspection (i.e. they have to be correct size and have nothing that the CPBS does not accept as standard) so if a pony is overheight he will be Class 2 and if he fails the vet inspection he will be Class 3 and once they have been put in a class they can not be upgraded. It is all very confusing for a lot of Connemara owners as a lot of "14.2" ponies are indeed closer to 15hh and it does mean no-one really knows how big their pony really is in Connemara terms. I have entered my boy who was 14.3 at the time at a County Show and was told with a bit more work he would do well I then asked that I thought he was probably overheight and was told, "Oh don't worry about that, he doesn't look overheight in the ring." Hmm.

Yes, I have a 15.2hh Connie. He is registered but as people have said is a class 2.
Shame as his parents are both class 1 which I assume means they were both the coorect height of 14.2 or under.
There are classes they can be entered so all is not lost and they are great at jumping too it seems

Yeah Prince is the same as this, he's 15hh so he's class 2 registered
